LAPELA (MONÇÃO)

Lapela is an old Portuguese parish in the municipality of Monção, with 1.56 km² of area and 223 inhabitants (2011). Its population density was 142.9 h / km². It was extinguished having been added to the parish of Troporiz and the new parish of União de Freguesias de Troporiz and Lapela was created.
The Lapela Tower is located next to the River Minho, in the parish of Lapela, Monção municipality, Viana do Castelo District, in Portugal.
It is all that remains of the Lapela Castle, which was located a few kilometers downstream from Monção, a castle that defended the ford of the River Minho.
In a stone appliance, it has a quadrangular plan with about 10 meters on its side and 35 meters in height. Its walls are three meters thick.
It has a single entrance on the North façade about 6 meters above the ground topped with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Portugal.
